Part of an exclusive community perched high up in the hills overlooking the Bay of Palma, Villa Catala oozes luxury and high-end appeal. The main house is a lovely example of traditional Mediterranean architecture, while inside is all sleek, bright contemporary living. Sunny terraces coalesce around a large pool and shaded terracotta-tiled patios offer deckchair downtime. Stunning views of the bay and surrounding countryside can be enjoyed from various vantage points, too.

Inside, a lounge a white grand piano provides a touch of the Liberace while contemporary artwork, colourful wallpaper and playful designer furnishings enliven interiors throughout. It’s a fabulous villa, full of character but with a sense of serene seclusion, despite its location just minutes from the buzz and bustle of swanky Port Portals marina.

Swish hilltop stay with sea and mountain vistas

SETTING

The villa is located in the hills above the famously swanky neighbourhood of Bendinat, a largely residential area on the southwest coast of Mallorca. Bendinat’s small but perfectly formed beach is less than five minutes’ away by car, as is the lovely twin coves of Illetas and Contesa. Head inland and you have easy access to some great hiking trails with stunning views along the coast. The location also puts you with easy reach of buzzing Palma and its international airport, at just 20 minutes by road.

SLEEPING

There are a total of five bedrooms which comfortably sleep up to ten guests. Each has its own ensuite bathroom (the master suite has two) and most are equipped with double sink, bidet and shower-bath combo. Bed are all king or super-king for added space and comfort, plus all rooms open to balconies with sea or panoramic mountain views. What’s more, every room has its own smart TV with satellite channels.

RELAXING

Surrounded by tall trees and the scent of lavender, you’ll find holiday bliss dipping in and out of the water and flopping onto cushioned poolside loungers. Prime poolside position is on the double daybed where you can recline while gazing out over the Mediterranean. If you’d rather relax indoors the piano lounge has a fun bubble chair, comfy sofa, widescreen TV and fireplace for chillier evenings.

EATING

A fabulously spacious kitchen is decked out with all the mod cons you’ll need if you planning on doing any cooking for yourself. There’s also a barbecue available if you prefer your cooking alfresco. A lovely long dining table makes the perfect spot for lingering lunches and evening meals overlooking the spectacular surrounding mountains.

For eating out, there are loads of options within a short drive. Nearby Hotel Bendinat’s Las Terrazas, for example, offers refined cuisine with some superb sea views. Alternatively, the excellent Astir restaurant at the Iberostar Grand Portals Nous serves up a menu of more avant-garde gastronomy.
